At The Essential Co., we believe skincare should be simple, nourishing and made with intention.
As sisters and mothers, our approach to skincare has grown from our own personal journey towards more natural, considered living. We wanted to create products that felt gentle enough for sensitive skin, while still providing the nourishment and support skin needs to feel healthy and cared for.
Every product is thoughtfully formulated and handmade by us in small batches, allowing us to remain closely connected to every part of the process - from selecting our ingredients to carefully preparing, blending and bottling each formulation.
Our beef tallow, rendered by hand
Every batch of our grass-fed tallow is handled with care by us, from the initial rendering through to the finished product. We take immense pride in sourcing premium tallow from freely roaming, 100% grass-fed cows right here in Victoria. We have built a relationship with the farmer and can wholeheartedly say that his cows are well-loved, well-fed and in fantastic health.
We take the time to carefully prepare and blend the tallow into our skincare formulations.
What began as one of our own favourite ingredients has grown into our best-selling product - and one of the formulations we are most proud to share with you.

What is beef tallow?
Beef tallow is rendered beef fat, typically obtained from the suet (fat deposits) of cows. It has been used for centuries in various cultures for cooking, skincare, and other purposes. Beef Tallow is known for its ability to heal, hydrate and nourish the skin naturally.
Grass Fed Tallow Nutrients
Beef tallow is rich in naturally-occurring fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, E, K, and B12, along with conjugated linoleic acid and niacin. With a high concentration of fatty acids, beef tallow effectively boosts hydration by restoring the natural balance of oil production. Beef Tallow contains fat-soluble vitamins and their activators that synergistically enhance cell regeneration, diminish fine lines, even out skin tone, and reduce the effects of UV damage. It is bioidentical to our skin and therefore has little chance of reaction and allergy however we always recommend to patch test first.
Vitamin a
Beef tallow is a natural source of vitamin A and known for its ability to stimulate collagen production, generate cell growth, aid in hyper pigmentation, reduce sun and age spots, improve uneven skin tone and wrinkle. Retinoids additionally combat sagging skin by stimulating angiogenesis, which is the process of generating new blood vessels.
Vitamin D
Tallow also serves as a natural form of vitamin D combating signs of aging when applied topically. It does this by shielding against phototoxicity and aiding the skin in coping with sunlight exposure. Vitamin D is essential for stimulating the body's innate production of hyaluronic acid, contributing to a rejuvenated and youthful complexion by enhancing skin plumpness and moisture levels.
Vitamin E
The Vitamin E present in tallow acts as an antioxidant which is excellent for combating dark spots and inflammation while also softening the skin and preventing moisture loss. Early research hints at vitamin E's potential role in sun protection, as it may absorb certain UV rays and alleviate the inflammatory reaction triggered by sun exposure.
Vitamin K
This vitamin is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which fight against acne, irritation, inflammatory skin conditions as well as preventing cellular damage from free radicals. Recently researchers have discovered its efficacy in reducing bruises, enhancing skin healing, and reversing premature aging.
INGREDIENT GLOSSARY
Raw Honey
Raw honey is packed full of antioxidants, enzymes and anti-bacterial properties making it perfect for acne prone and inflamed skin. It helps to sooth, hydrate and heal the skin whilst leaving it looking radiant and glowy. Raw Honey is also known to gently exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells and unclogging pores leaving your skin feeling soft, supple and moisturised.
Organic Coconut Oil
We have incorporated Organic Cold Pressed Coconut oil into many of our balms for its antibacterial and anti fungal properties. These properties make it affective at treating acne, eczema and other skin conditions. Coconut oil also improves skin tone, protects the skin barrier and protects against sun damage.
Organic Shea Butter
The beauty of this ingredient is its ability to deeply penetrate the skin and lock in moisture providing long lasting hydration. The vitamin a and e found in Shea butter promotes skin elasticity and combats signs of aging. The presence of compounds like cinnamic acid in shea butter makes it beneficial for promoting skin healing, reducing scars, and soothe irritated skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis.
Organic Beeswax
Beeswax is a natural emollient meaning it forms a protective barrier on the skin's surface, sealing in moisture and protecting the skin from environmental irritants and pollutants. This protective barrier helps to shield the skin from harsh weather conditions, such as wind and cold, as well as from the damaging effects of UV radiation.When added to skincare products beeswax helps to improve their texture, making them easier to apply and providing a luxurious feel.
Organic Cocoa Butter
Cocoa butter again is extremely beneficial for skin health and integrity whilst also improving the texture of our balms. Cocoa butter is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and fatty acids making it nourishing, healing and protective for the skin.
Organic Calendula Infused Extra Olive Oil
Calendula is renowned for its ability to aid in wound healing. When combined with olive oil, it forms a powerful blend that fosters skin recovery and renewal, expediting the healing process of cuts, scrapes, and minor wounds.
Organic Jojoba Oil
This premium oil possesses anti-inflammatory properties that can alleviate irritation or inflammation, making it advantageous for conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea. Jojoba oil closely mirrors the skin's natural sebum production, rendering it an exceptional moisturiser. It absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving a greasy residue, providing long-lasting hydration. Additionally, it boasts an abundance of antioxidants, safeguarding the skin against free radical damage.
Non-Nano Zinc Oxide
We've included Zinc in our balms for its remarkable wound-healing capabilities, which facilitate the renewal of impaired skin cells and accelerate the recovery process for minor cuts, scrapes, and abrasions. It's an ideal addition to a natural nappy rash cream or for aiding in the healing of severely inflamed or irritated skin.
Natural Vitamin E
Vitamin E promotes skin repair and regeneration by supporting the production of collagen, a protein that helps maintain the skin's structure and elasticity. It helps heal damaged skin cells, reducing the appearance of scars, wrinkles, and other imperfections.
Organic Evening Primrose Oil
The fatty acids in evening primrose oil help strengthen the skin's natural barrier function, reducing moisture loss and improving overall hydration levels. This can help repair and protect the skin from environmental stressors. Evening primrose oil is rich in fatty acids, including gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which deeply moisturizes the skin, leaving it soft, smooth, and hydrated.

Organic pomegranate oil is a versatile and beneficial ingredient in skincare, providing antioxidant protection, moisturisation, anti-inflammatory properties, and skin regeneration benefits for healthy and radiant skin.
